Summary
JsonPen is a browser-based tool. Your input, output, and uploaded files never leave your device — there is no server-side processing. We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic and may show ads to support the project.
Data you provide
Any JSON, YAML, CSV, or XML you paste, type, or upload stays in your browser. It is parsed, formatted, and converted entirely client-side and is never transmitted to JsonPen, our hosting provider, or any third party.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (with Consent Mode v2) to measure aggregate usage: page views, top conversions, devices, browsers, and approximate countries. When you click Accept on the consent banner, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to count returning sessions. When you click Reject, no cookies are set; anonymous, aggregated pings may still be sent for modelled traffic counts.
We also store your theme preference, the consent choice, and tree-search settings in your browser's localStorage. These are not transmitted anywhere.
Advertising
JsonPen does not currently show ads. If we add advertising in the future, the consent banner will gate ad-personalisation cookies, and this policy will be updated.
Third-party services
- Vercel — hosts the site. Standard request logs (IP, user-agent, URL) may be retained per Vercel's policy.
- Google Analytics — anonymised analytics, used only with consent.
- Vercel Analytics — privacy-friendly page views, no cookies.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK, or California, you can request information about, or deletion of, any personal data we hold. Since we don't store user accounts or any data you process with the tool, requests usually only apply to analytics cookies, which you can revoke any time by re-opening the consent banner from the menu.
